![]() The so-called Unity Coupled Circuit is related to the transformer winding method. ![]() ![]() However, the term Unity Coupled Circuit was not officially adopted in advertising until 1954. Watch as McIntosh Quad Balanced Power Transformers are wound by the same technician, on the same machine as it has been for decades. The first patent was obtained in 1949, so McIntosh was founded that year. McIntosh’s patented Unity Coupled Circuit output transformer technology promises that the full 150 watts can be delivered to almost any pair of speakers, regardless of whether they have a 2-, 4- or 8-ohm impedance. The MC901’s valve amp section uses McIntosh’s patented Unity Coupled Circuit output transformer (the same technology McIntosh was founded on in 1949) to deliver its full 300 watts into almost any speaker, regardless of impedance similarly, the solid-state section delivers its full 600 watts using McIntosh’s Autoformer™ technology. Each transformer is housed in a glass topped extruded enclosure that displays the wiring. Two Unity Coupled Circuit output transformers flank the power transformer which is positioned between them. This is thanks to McIntosh’s patented Unity Coupled Circuit output transformer technology – the same technology McIntosh was founded on in 1949.
